Job Description

Reporting to the Director for Research Impact and Intelligence, the Research Impact and Intelligence Department of University Libraries at Virginia Tech is looking for a creative, collaborative, and passionate data professional to help build and operationalize data solutions that provide analytical insights and information necessary to improve the operational, tactical, and strategic decision-making processes across the institution on a project-based basis with the overall aim of understanding and fueling Virginia Tech’s global distinction goals. This position will operate as a liaison to the Analytics and Institutional Effectiveness office and will perform projects that include extracting, analyzing, and visualizing research, patent, and openly available government funding data for various departments, institutes, and the Office of Research and Innovation.

Required Qualifications

- MS in Statistics, Computer Science, Operations Research, Mathematics, Physics, Finance, or other related disciplines
- Sound knowledge of statistical methods
- Experience in collecting, integrating, processing, and analyzing data
- Significant experience with Python and/or R
- Knowledge of open source or commercial data visualization libraries/tools
- Demonstrated experience in analyzing, summarizing and presenting quantitative and qualitative information clearly and concisely
- Demonstrated experience working in a highly collaborative work environment
- Excellent written and oral communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience working in a research intensive university, institute, or national lab
- Knowledge of scholarly publication environment and metadata associated with publications
- Knowledge of bibliometrics and scientometrics
- Knowledge of university rankings methodologies
- Knowledge of government grant terminology and associated data
- Knowledge of responsible research assessment practices
- Detail-oriented with an ability to understand the university environment and contribute broadly to a variety of university goals and projects
- Demonstrated service activities or work experience showing a commitment to inclusive practice

Salary Information

Minimum $75,000 dependent on qualifications and experience.

Additional Information

-This position is eligible for hybrid or fully remote, and the work arrangement will be confirmed upon hire. As necessary, may need to be onsite for collaboration purposes, with up to four campus visits per year.
