This position is for a Traffic Records Planning and Data Analyst and requires a full-time (40-hour/week, on-site staff person located at DMV HQ/VAHSO/Traffic Records, Highway Safety Planning and Analysis) in Richmond VA. This person will interact directly with DMV Highway Safety Office staff and will communicate regularly with the Virginia Tech project manager in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department and staff in the Center for Geospatial Information Technology (CGIT) at Virginia Tech.
The person in this position:
- Performs analysis of crash, demographic and related information using geospatial and analytical software tools.
- Prepares, presents, or communicates results of analyses through summaries, written reports, and graphic presentations.
- Maintains documentation to facilitate on-going development and future adaptations of analysis methods
- Routinely communicates current activities with supervisor and sponsor
- Works independently and within diverse team settings with minimal supervision in a fast-paced agency environment.
- Manages multiple projects and priorities; responds to on-demand and emerging requests with short deadlines; interprets various types of information and effectively presents factual conclusions to both technical and non-technical audiences and effectively communicates research findings.
- Preference will be given to candidates with experience in highway safety crash data and analysis
- Some travel (in and out of state) may be required
- Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Statistical or Mathematical Sciences, Geography, or other similar field; an exception may be made for a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Statistical or Mathematical Sciences, Geography, or other similar field with significant related experience.
- Strong communication skills
- Experience with managing multiple projects and priorities
- Experience with office suite software, such as word processing, presentations, and spreadsheets (specifically pivot tables)
- Experience with GIS tools, preferably ArcGIS, to layer, analyze, and graphically display and present GIS data
- Experience in generating graphical arrangements and displays
- Experience with performing data queries and working with linked data sets
-Experience with Microsoft Access, Power BI, SAS or JMP, “R”, MatLab, or other database/statistical software packages
-Experience with data modeling and statistical functions and methods as well as qualitative and quantitative data analysis to produce preliminary, trend, and predictive analysis of data
-Experience with programming languages (SQL, Java, or Python)
-Experience with GIS-based geo-coding and validation of location information, and geospatial GIS analysis
$52,000-$58,000 depending on experience.
