A research scientist is sought to launch Disease Mechanics Initiative in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Tech. This position provides an excellent opportunity to work in a world-class interdisciplinary environment as part of a team of experimental and computational scientists from engineering and biology, and in close collaboration with clinicians.
The position entails interacting with faculty across multiple departments, managing collaborative interdisciplinary research projects, facilitating large-scale research proposal development, and actively liaising with funding agencies. An attractive compensation package commensurate with experience will include competitive benefits and a retirement package offered by Virginia Tech. The position is available starting as soon as possible and is eligible for annual renewal contingent upon satisfactory progress and continued funding.
• Completed Ph.D. in biology, engineering, biophysics, or a closely related discipline.
• Proven track record of outstanding research that is reflected in publications and secured funding (e.g., postdoctoral fellowship or other early-career grants)
• Experience in working in Biosafety Level-2 (BSL-2) laboratory environment, proficiency in standard cell- and molecular-biological techniques, and advanced optical microscopy.
• Strong communication skills, enthusiasm to lead independent and manage collaborative interdisciplinary research, develop grant proposals, and the ability and willingness to mentor graduate and undergraduate students.
• Additional experience in bacteriology.
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
