The Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Veterinary Assistant. This position provides support to clinical faculty, staff and veterinary students in the Small Animal Clinic of the hospital.
The Veterinary assistant’s job duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Accompanies a clinician through the duties of patient care during the course of each work shift, while updating the medical record in real time and clinician reports when applicable.
- Record all phone calls and in-person client conversations done by the clinician in the
electronic medical record. Relay the results of the conversation to colleagues under guidance of the clinician.
- During a physical exam (PE), record the findings as dictated by the clinician.
- Take relevant photos of the PE and attach to Ezyvet with a proper title
- Assist with creating templates for discharges
- Assisting in surgery: scrub in for surgeries, as needed
When not scrubbed in assist faculty or resident with documenting surgical procedures.
Downtime (not during appointments)
- Attach all medical record info to the EzyVet file - examples: rDVM records, follow up emails and photos. Title the medical records in EzyVet.
- Receive any needed training from the LVT and front desk.
- Update the Master Problem Lists (MPL) - use histopathology reports.
- Contact owners to schedule/sign consent forms for clinical studies.
- Assist LVT with basic patient care (ex: walking, restraint)
- Assist LVT with cleaning and restocking area
- Back up in other areas as deemed necessary by Supervisor
• Excellent typing skills
. Experience in a Veterinary Clinic or Hospital
• Common knowledge with veterinary terminology
• Ability to handle and restrain cats and dogs
• Passion and long-term interest in the veterinary field with a dedication to succeed.
• Strong and professional written and verbal English communication skills
• Strong organizational and multitasking skills with high attention to details
• Computer literacy, efficiency, and troubleshooting.
• Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
• Rabies prophylaxis is required (provided by employer)
• Ability to grasp new concepts quickly and efficiently and work as part of a team
• Experience with Medical Records and/or Medical Coding
• Associates Degree
starting at 37,500 and commensurate with experience
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
