The Graduate School is seeking a Graduate Admissions and Academic Progress advisor to provide program support for graduate admissions applications and academic progress to degree, with specific focus on Master of Engineering Computer Science and Computer Engineering programs. Responsibilities include advising prospective and current graduate students, serving as a liaison with academic units and campus partners, interpreting and applying Graduate School and university policies, working with confidential student information, providing general office support through telephone, email, and in person appointments, and assisting with planning and executing graduate student programming. This is a 4 days-a-week onsite, one day-a-week remote position.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of people such as administrators, faculty, staff, students, and external constituents.
• Work experience with computer software packages and applications including fluency with Microsoft tools.
• Work experience with a relational database such as Banner.
• Work experience interpreting and communicating policies.
• Earned bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant work experience.
• Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgement and make informed decisions in complex situations.
• Work experience providing academic advising to students.
• Experience working in higher education administration or university setting.
• Administrative support experience in higher education setting.
• Work experience in graduate education admissions, advising graduate students, and working with international students.
• Work experience with Banner student.
• Work experience with Slate.
• Knowledge of Virginia Tech policies and procedures.
55,000-61,000, commensurate with experience
