Manage the financial reporting section of the Controller's Office with primary responsibility for compilation of the university annual financial statements accurately and compliant with the Virginia Department of Accounts deadlines and directions. Prepare and manage the project schedule, and supervise and assist staff in the completion of the annual financial statements and other special purpose financial reports for the university and its business units. Responsible for the completion of several regulatory filings and surveys, such as, the 990T Exempt Organizations Business Income Tax Return and the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS). Generate routine and adhoc internal reports for upper management. Responsible for taking a lead role in researching and planning the implementation of new standards issued by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB). Oversee year-round financial statement activities such as the identification and recording of right-to-use agreements, capitalization of renovations and capital projects, and maintenance of financial reporting data attributes.
• Master degree in accounting, finance or similar field or Bachelor's with demonstrated experience preparing financial reports and analysis equivalent to advanced degree.
• Professional licensure.
• Progressive experience in the preparation or audit of complex audited annual financial statements.
• Significant skills using business intelligence, SQL, accounting, or similar software applications to develop data extracts, automate data transformations, and generate data and report outputs.
• Experience successfully planning and managing projects.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and train.
• Active CPA license.
• Experience preparing or auditing under GASB accounting standards.
• Experience implementing, customizing, or configuring an ERP finance module or post-implementation
• Experience implementing accounting standard updates.
Salary range of $90,000 - $120,000
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
