The Office Assistant will serve the Mechanical Engineering department with a range of administrative duties. The selected candidate will have strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a highly professional manner with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors. It is essential to the job to possess exceptional customer service skills with the ability to excel in a team environment. Additionally, the selected candidate must be able to work independently, exercise judgment and confidentiality in dealing with people, information and problems. Dependability and good attendance are a must.
Successful candidate must have previous administrative support experience in an academic or professional office setting; demonstrated experience providing quality customer service; experience with office equipment such as, copier, fax machine, phone, and scanner; strong computer skills such as data entry, word processing, spreadsheets, email and internet navigation; demonstrated proficiency with current office computer software such as Microsoft Word and Excel; demonstrated ability to operate within a team based environment; excellent communication skills with the ability to interact respectfully and comfortably with all individuals in a diverse, multicultural environment.
Preference will be given to candidates who have experience analyzing and interpreting university policies and procedures; experience handling confidential information; experience with large relational databases such as Banner and HokieMart; experience working with graduate and undergraduate students; experience working with international students.
Non-Exempt: Eligible for overtime
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
