The Fiscal Technician is a collaborative and detail-oriented role on the Advancement Gift Accounting team. This position is responsible for evaluating gift documents and recording various types of gifts and pledges to the university. This role ensures that donations reflect the wishes of our donors and comply with university policies, CASE guidelines, and IRS regulations. Additionally, the technician reconciles gift fund accounts to maintain accuracy and completeness.
This position ensures that donor records are maintained in a complete and accurate manner, properly using the varied coding schemes as necessary to reflect the unique specifics of each gift or pledge so that high quality information is available to all authorized parties in the university and the VT Foundation. This position manages all confidential donor information in accordance with mandated guidelines, responds promptly to queries and requests from departmental, university, and foundation users, as well as donors when appropriate. Additionally, this position also oversees the retention of both physical and electronic gift records and will participate in broader Gift Accounting responsibilities as needed.
The Fiscal Technician must have the ability to:

Previous data entry and bookkeeping/accounting experience or relevant experience.
Proficiency with current office computer software such as electronic mail, word processing, spreadsheets and relational database applications.
Demonstrated experience in producing business correspondence, professional presentation materials, responses to request for information and input and other documents and electronic communications.
Outstanding communication skills with the capacity for discretion and for handling confidential information with care.
Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in accounting or related field.
Deposit reconciliation experience.
Experience in a higher education institution.
Previous experience with large databases such as Blackbaud CRM.
Experience with gift accounting procedures or development.
Non-Exempt: Eligible for overtime
Unable to sponsor work visas.
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
