To assist with providing communications support to the Veterinary College and Teaching Hospital via telephone, paging and computerized messaging system. Will serve as a contact for emergencies within the building. Will interact frequently with college security and Virginia Tech Police. Will handle physical plant calls as needed. Supports the Patient Receiving/Medical Records/Patient Coordinators in proper registration, admissions and scheduling. Must be able to calmly and quickly handle patient emergency situations contacting the proper personnel for assistance. General Office duties will include faxing and copying, scanning and uploading forms into the medical record. This person must have good communication skills and be able to communicate well with referring vets, clients, faculty, staff and students. Maintains a calm and pleasant demeanor at all times. Must be very adept at multitasking. This position will service many areas and take on the role of liaison between client and the VTH. The goal for this relationship is to make the clients experience with the VTH to be as smooth as possible, ensuring the owner and patient receive the best possible attention. This position is considered essential personnel and it is necessary for employee to be at work if the University is closed due to inclement weather.
Previous experience in a professional office environment; demonstrated strong communication and customer service skills; ability to work under stress; ability to maintain a pleasant controlled voice; ability to multitask. Individual must be approachable and pleasant under all situations.
Experience in a busy professional office with direct public contact. Knowledge of medical terminology.
Non-Exempt: Eligible for overtime
Starting at $37,500, commensurate with experience
The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
