Job Description

The Grazing Animal Care Technician will provide independent, high-quality research support for Robin White's research program within the School of Animal Sciences at Virginia Tech. The position supports animal research activities involving grazing livestock, including horses, cattle, and sheep, and is expected to support the lab's work in applied animal science research under the Alliance to Advance Climate Smart Agriculture Project. Early morning, weekend, evening, and holiday work will be required occasionally.

Required Qualifications

Significant experience in grazing animal care and husbandry (cattle, sheep, and/or horses); Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage day-to-day responsibilities; Experience working with grazing livestock in a teaching or research environment, including familiarity with animal use protocols and compliance standards; Ability to follow and execute management and feeding protocols accurately; Experience performing basic sample collection (e.g.; feed, hair, or fecal samples) and maintaining detailed records and strong commitment to safety animal welfare; Proficiency with safe handling of livestock and operation of farm equipment (trailers, utility vehicles, tractors, etc.)
