The Associate Director / Photography is a key member the Virginia Tech Athletics Brand Advancement team, which is charged with creating connections and memorable experiences for our student-athletes and fans while continuing to elevate the Virginia Tech brand. This role will serve as the primary athletics department photographer while also cultivating a team of undergraduate students who will support the photography operations to serve all 22 sports, as well as internal department units. Responsibilities will include capturing and producing high-quality, versatile photography, supporting future student-athlete recruitment efforts of teams and maintaining a successful storage, archiving and distribution process for photography assets.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in photography, digital media, film, communications or related field with relevant experience, or a master's degree.
Experiential understanding of industry-standards regarding cameras, camera settings, sports photography requirements and lighting equipment with ability to adapt to new technologies and methods as the field evolves.
Proven ability to capture and produce versatile, high-quality photography that aligns with collegiate athletics branding.
Assist in managing the creative workflow, including helping to organize and lead photoshoots.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly to develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions; strong organizational, planning and time management skills.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as in a self-directed and productive manner.
Ability to work in a quick-paced work environment with tight deadlines with skills to adapt and pivot, as necessary.
Working knowledge of appropriate NCAA, conference and university rules and regulations as it pertains to area of responsibility.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience leading and instructing a group of undergraduate students.
Photography experience working in NCAA Division I, professional sports or equivalent.
