Job Duties
Direct the activities of the assigned Division to meet the department's goals and objectives, manage the activities of the sworn and non-sworn employees for the observance of orders, proper performance of duty, the maintenance of discipline, and to foster cooperative relationships among the department, the community, and other public safety agencies.
Minimum Qualifications
Considerable knowledge of security operations, law enforcement practices, protective services and investigative techniques. Knowledge of current security practices, techniques, and industry standards. Knowledge of safe and ethical handling of firearms. Demonstrated ability to supervise staff and communicate effectively to develop and implement training standards and monitor and evaluate performance. Demonstrated ability to plan, schedule and direct the activities of a diverse group of employees and facilitate a team environment among law enforcement staff; demonstrated ability to manage budgets and estimate and project equipment costs; demonstrated ability to manage projects; demonstrated ability to implement written security policies and procedures. Demonstrated ability to analyze information, prepare reports, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing to a diverse population. Demonstrated ability to utilize a personal computer using current software programs.
Current Virginia law enforcement officer certification provided by the Commonwealth of Virginia, Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS).
Current and responsible supervisory or managerial experience in law enforcement.
Two years experience as a Lieutenant or in an equivalent position.
Possess a valid Virginia driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
A minimum of 60 semester hours of college credit from an accredited college or university.
Successfully completed FBI National Academy, Southern Police Institute, National Criminal Justice Command College, or equivalent program.
