The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the School of Biological Sciences in the role of a Research Fellow, playing a crucial role in part of a collaborative team of researchers.
As countries move to protect 30% of land and sea, there is an increasing need to identify places that can make a positive contribution to conservation outcomes. This project will explore opportunities to use the concept of other effective area-based conservation measures (OECMs) to create conservation landscapes and seascapes that complement protected areas. The project will explore the diverse types of areas that have the potential to provide biodiversity outcomes, and the configuration of these areas relative to formal protected areas. It will also explore the types of biodiversity outcomes that can be achieved and the ways in which creating integrated landscapes and seascapes could enhance or magnify those outcomes.
You will work closely with an ARC Future Fellow, research assistant and graduate students as part of this groundbreaking research project. You will also develop and apply tools to evaluate conservation areas that support existing marine and terrestrial protected areas across diverse international contexts.
The successful candidate in this role will have a PhD in conservation science, decision science, marine ecology, or a closely related field. You will also have demonstrated analytical skills, proficiency with spatial analysis and a strong track record of peer-reviewed publications.
If this sounds like a position that suits your current career focus we look forward to hearing from you.
