The Opportunity
Join one of Australia's most dynamic academic environments at Monash University’s Faculty of Arts, renowned for excellence in humanities, social sciences, and languages. The position is based within the Australian Centre for Jewish Civilisation (ACJC), a leading hub for interdisciplinary Jewish studies. The ACJC is dedicated to advancing research, education, and community engagement, addressing contemporary issues, combating antisemitism, and promoting intercultural understanding. The Centre collaborates widely with academic, government, and community partners across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
The Strategic Communications Officer manages all communications for the Monash Initiative for Rapid Research into Antisemitism, including developing materials, overseeing digital platforms, and supporting stakeholder engagement with universities and government. They ensure all messaging aligns with MIRRA’s values of equity, safety, and institutional relevance. Leading with professionalism and strategy, they help MIRRA’s research influence policy and public understanding, upholding the standards of Australia’s premier centre for Jewish studies.
To succeed in this role, you must demonstrate excellent strategic communications skills with experience creating materials for diverse audiences. You should have proven expertise in issues management and crisis communications, including the ability to craft responsive messaging for sensitive topics and handle communications during challenging situations. Strong project coordination skills are essential, with experience managing multiple communications workstreams simultaneously while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines. Additionally, cultural sensitivity and community awareness are vital, including a deep understanding of Jewish communities and culture, an appreciation of the complexities of contemporary Jewish life, and awareness of antisemitism and discrimination issues.
