The opportunity

Partnering with the General Manager Recycling and our operational leaders, you will bring an independent commercial lens to decision making, support pricing, contracts and risk, and make sure our capital investments stack up and deliver.

Your day will involve

  • Partner with the General Manager Recycling and their team to align and successfully execute the Recycling strategy
  • Use financial targets, benchmarks, models and performance metrics to drive strategic decision making and performance, against our business targets
  • Improve short- and medium-term business performance by recommending financial, operational and commercial solutions
  • Provide sound commercial and analytical support to operations to deliver profitable and sustainable growth, including testing the cost effectiveness of growth strategies and making sure approved capital investment decisions deliver the benefits promised
  • Support a busy capital pipeline across plant, equipment and site development, and help assess potential acquisitions and integrate them into the P&L
  • Provide input into internal transfer pricing, and work closely with the Commercial Finance Managers in Quarries, Concrete and Asphalt
  • Partner with Operations and Sales Managers in their review of site, project and contract profitability, including recycled product pricing, gate fees and the impact of state waste levy settings and EPA licence conditions
  • Work with our joint venture partners in Victoria on reporting, performance and commercial matters
  • Provide strong input into the preparation and delivery of operating budgets and forecasts in line with Group requirements, well supported by central resources
  • Own the month end process and result close and analysis, and make sure reported results are materially correct
  • Lead preparation of key management reports and own the Recycling Balanced Scorecard
  • Provide timely and accurate in month P&L outlooks and capex forecasts, and help optimise working capital
  • Lead weekly Profit Delivery Plan meetings and drive implementation of initiatives across the business unit
  • Implement reporting and control frameworks, and provide input into audit, governance, risk and compliance
  • Lead and develop one direct report, and build the financial literacy of a long tenured operational team

What are we looking for?

  • A commercially focused and experienced finance professional, ideally with prior exposure to partnering with operational stakeholders
  • Strong financial acumen 
  • Bachelor degree (or higher) in Commerce, Business, Finance or Economics, with CA or CPA qualifications preferred
  • Wide and deep experience providing expert advice on financial outcomes for operations in large and complex industrial, manufacturing, resources or waste businesses
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver improvement in performance through financial leadership and insight
  • Proven commitment and track record in achieving strong financial, investment and performance results
  • A collaborator who engages well with operations, is eager to take on new opportunities, and can pivot as the business grows
  • Experience planning, managing and organising resources over short and medium timescales within an overall policy framework
  • Comfortable with regular travel to our sites, and a current driver's license

Please note that the is flexibility in the location of this role however the Commercial Finance Manager will need to be flexible to travel to the recycling sites and head off at North Ryde on a monthly basis.
