We’re building out a platform capability that works — fast, secure, reliable cloud infrastructure that underpins everything else we do. But we’re not looking for someone to just manage systems. We need a Principal Cloud Engineer who’s ready to help shape the technical future of WorkCover.

This role exists because we’re scaling — not just our cloud footprint, but how we lead and deliver platform engineering across the organisation. You’ll play a key role in providing cloud engineering expertise and support the design and delivery of WorkCover Queensland’s technical initiatives.

You’ll contribute to: 

• Define and embed cloud engineering standards and platform patterns that others will follow
• Lead the development and continuous improvement of secure, compliant, cloud-native infrastructure
• Bring strategy to life by aligning platform capabilities with our long-term business goals
• Stay across emerging technologies — and know how to separate the game-changers from the noise
• Drive collaboration across digital, architecture, and business stakeholders
• Set the tone for cloud excellence — not just in code, but in culture

A bit about you: 

You’re a senior cloud expert with deep AWS knowledge and at least six years of experience under your belt. But more importantly, you think beyond infrastructure. You know how to guide teams, influence roadmaps.

You have a strong attention to detail and thrive in the technical depths. Whether you’re designing resilient architectures or building out automation pipelines, your focus is on delivering reliable, secure, and efficient cloud solutions. You understand cloud security, governance, automation, and cost optimisation – and you’re hands-on in making sure it’s all done right.

You’re a natural mentor who enjoys lifting others up. You collaborate across functions, bring others on the journey, and aren’t afraid to challenge the status quo if there’s a better way forward.

You also bring strong communication skills - turning complexity into clarity for stakeholders and translating technical decisions into real-world value for the business.
