Pepperdine University’s College of Health Science (PCHS) is seeking an instructional technology support manager to provide technical assistance, support, and training to faculty, staff, and learners within the College of Health Science and the PCHS Simulation and Skills Center. The manager will ensure that all PCHS academic operations function optimally to support teaching, learning, research, and assessment activities. They will also ensure that all Simulation Center IT infrastructure, audiovisual (AV) systems, and simulation technology support the achievement of PCHS programs’ educational goals and objectives. In performing their duties, the manager will support faculty, staff, and Simulation Center personnel to align technology with educational goals and compliance standards. The manager will also serve as a liaison to Pepperdine’s Instructional Technology department.

The technician will be supervised by the Director of Simulation and Skills Education and also report to the Dean of the College of Health Science. The manager will be expected to work collaboratively with all PCHS faculty/staff and academic programs, as well as in all PCHS learning environments.

Duties

  • Support the technology operations of the PCHS Simulation Center ensuring optimal use of its state-of-the-art facilities, equipment, and technology to achieve the educational goals and objectives of all PCHS programs:
    • Monitor, maintain, and provide Tier I and Tier II level technical support for all simulation systems, laboratory equipment, AV systems, computing environments, digital-media platforms, and other related technologies.
    • Install and configure hardware and software for simulation labs, debriefing rooms, and control centers; perform regular preventive maintenance on IT and AV systems; coordinate system upgrades; manage repairs or software support issues, as required.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues involving mannequins, task trainers, and virtual reality or computer-based simulation systems.
    • Support all Simulation Center operations, including maintaining inventory and documentation of all IT and AV assets and assisting with scenario development, as required.
    • Ensure data security and confidentiality in alignment with Pepperdine University and Simulation Center policies and FERPA/HIPAA standards; regularly backup simulation session files, learning records, and system configurations regularly.
    • Train faculty and staff on the use of simulation technologies, content management systems, and AV systems; participate in quality improvement initiatives and support accreditation readiness documentation. 
  • Support the teaching of PCHS faculty and the scholarship of PCHS faculty and students, including providing Tier I and Tier II technical support for academic learning and content management systems (e.g., Canvas, LearningSpace), program-specific computing applications (e.g., ATI, ExamSoft), and other IT-related issues. 
  • Coordinate and collaborate with Pepperdine University Instructional Technology departments to ensure comprehensive IT support for all academic and simulation-related needs. 
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of processes, procedures, and technical solutions related to PCHS technology systems, including an up-to-date inventory of all computers and related IT equipment. 
  • Provide training to PCHS faculty and staff on the use of computing systems and technology tools. 
  • Support the PCHS in the identifying, purchasing, installing, operating, and maintaining all instructional-technology resources, including computers and other technology tools

Skills and Qualifications

Required:

  • An associate’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent relevant work experience).
  • Proficiency with Windows and macOS operating systems, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, AV systems (Crestron, Zoom, Extron), and networking basics
  • Strong organizational skills and work ethic.
  • Outstanding, oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to learn quickly, work effectively both collaboratively and independently, and the skill to develop relationships of trust across a wide range of constituents.

Preferred:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field
  • Experience with simulation management software (LearningSpace, Maestro, Elevate Healthcare) and learning management systems (Canvas)
  • Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist® (CHSOS®) or A+ or Network+ certification
  • Clinical knowledge and experience working in a healthcare setting or experience conducting and performing healthcare simulations.
  • One or more years of previous professional experience in IT support in an educational or clinical setting
  • A record of outstanding professional performance.

This is a Regular, Nonexempt, 40 hour per week position.

Expected Pay Range: $28.12 - $31.25 per hour 

The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level. In addition to base pay, Pepperdine offers a robust and highly competitive benefits package.
