Pepperdine University is looking for an employee to support the General Accounting department with a solid work ethic, good judgment, and a desire to build a long-term career with us. The Assistant Accountant will support the General Accounting team and the University by monitoring and correcting financial transactions. It is important to be able to work independently, but also function well within a team environment.

Duties:

  • Conduct regular reconciliations of general ledger and bank accounts and resolve all issues.
  • Prepare, input and verify correction journal entries. 
  • Assist in monthly and annual closing cycles by preparing journal entries and reviewing account balances. 
  • Prepare audit schedules and assist outside auditors with various annual audits. 
  • Support the accounting team as needed, and help test the system for upgrades.
  • Maintain favorable relationships, effective communication, and a high level of customer service with the University community. 
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications

Required:

  • High School diploma required and two years of College courses in accounting, finance or a related field.
  • One year of accounting or equivalent experience with an automated accounting system is required.
  • General knowledge of accounting process.
  • Good analytical, organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be proficient in Windows, Excel and Word.

Preferred:

  • A Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related field.
  • One or more years of experience in non-profit and/or higher education accounting.
  • Experience using PeopleSoft or other Oracel ERP system.
  • Database and ad hoc reporting experience.
  • Qualified individuals should be able to articulate a strong commitment to diversity, and have the ability to work effectively with individuals from different backgrounds.

This is a Regular, Nonexempt, 40 hour per week position.

Expected Pay Range: $22.93 - $25.48 per hour

The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level.
