Location: The role is hybrid, at the Fintech Innovation Hub located on UD’s STAR Campus.
The University of Delaware – Delaware Small Business Development (SBDC) is seeking a cyber savvy intern to join the Cybersecurity team in a part time capacity. This role will be vital to supporting the program and operations of two cybersecurity training and human risk management programs, North Star and Data Assured. Under the direct supervision of the SBDC Cybersecurity Program Manager, you will work closely with other professionals, gain hands-on experience with program management and operations, and contribute directly to fostering a more secure business environment in Delaware and nationally.
About the department / center:
The Mission of the Office of Economic Innovation and Partnerships (OEIP) is to, (1) promote innovation and entrepreneurship within the University community and the state, (2) provide leadership in the creation and growth of small businesses in Delaware, and (3) develop social and economic value from UD’s knowledge-based assets by advancing UD’s intellectual property, inventions and technologies from the laboratory to the market place through partnerships and collaborations.
The Delaware Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is a unit of OEIP. Its mission is to strengthen Delaware’s economic base by providing quality management assistance, education programs and resources to Delaware’s business community.
Role Description:
The Delaware SBDC Cybersecurity Program Manager oversees two separate training programs, North Star and Data Assured. North Star is a federally funded, national training program targeted at training small business advisors and supporting staff in cybersecurity principles. Data Assured is the Delaware SBDC cybersecurity training program that focuses on helping small businesses in Delaware with their security awareness and posture.
The Delaware Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is seeking a part-time Cybersecurity (Training) Intern, with experience in technical and non-technical writing, security operational work, and the NIST Cybersecurity Framework. The ideal candidate has existing education and skills in information technology or science, training or adult learning, and project management. The candidate will be detail-oriented, works well independently, strong researcher and have strong written and verbal communication skills.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Program Operations Support: Manage weekly and daily tasks that support the operations of North Star, including fielding email correspondence, conducting user verification reviews, documenting processes, and troubleshooting learner issues
- Content Creation: Research and develop engaging and educational cybersecurity training content, including print and digital handouts, presentations, videos, and virtual activities.
- Resource Development: Contribute to the development and maintenance of awareness resources for our website and other communications, ensuring accessibility for most users
- Metrics and Reporting: Collect quantitative and qualitative data from various sources and conduct data analysis for various program and status reports
- Additional Tasks: Support the Cybersecurity Team with other duties as assigned

- Ability to follow standard operating procedures in a timely manner and conduct repetitive tasks
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Excellent attention to detail and proofreading skills
- Knowledge of graphic design, layout aesthetics, digital publishing and printing is a plus.
- Awareness of Adult Learning Theories and experience with learning management systems is a plus
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines
