About the department / center: The Edge Summer College Program is lead by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. 

Role Description: The Edge Summer College Program is seeking current undergraduate students who want to provide high school juniors and seniors from around the world with an excellent experience that helps them better prepare for success in college. We seek students who can serve as exemplary role models and have demonstrated the ability to successfully navigate their college experience to date. Our team is looking for undergraduate students who value serving students, diversity, teamwork, respect, and harmony, and are looking for summer positions that are purpose-driven and have a positive impact on the lives of young people. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support student success by mentoring and building positive relationships with a group of up to 15 rising high school juniors and seniors.

  • Provide individualized and group academic and social support. 

  • Conduct mandatory check-ins with your mentees at 6:30 pm and 9 pm each evening. 

  • Effectively plan and market engaging evening and weekend activities. All staff are required to attend each evening activity. 
  • Provide residence hall security (curfew and overnight monitoring of hall), attends staff meetings as scheduled, and completes basic reports.
    • Hall checks at 10 pm each evening to ensure all students are back at the residence hall and on the floor where the program resides. 
    • Enforce quiet hours beginning at 11 p.m. and lights out for all students beginning at 12 a.m. 
    • On a rotating basis, staff will be required to work evening duty shifts that begin at 11 p.m. and end at 3:00 a.m. 
    • All staff are required to attend staff meetings that will occur three times a week. Staff meeting schedules will be determined during staff training during training week of July 14-18, 2025. 
    • Edge Mentor staff are required to live in the residence hall for the duration of training and the program. 
  • Effectively plan and market engaging evening and weekend activities. All staff are required to attend each evening activity. 
  • Maintain consistent communication with the team throughout the day via group chat and provide support with assigned tasks as needed. 
  • Carry out program policies and rules to ensure student safety, health, wellness, and compliance with UD’s protection of minors policies. 
  • Uphold high standards of personal and professional conduct as an Edge mentor by adhering to UD’s protection of minors policies and appropriate behavior while engaging with minors. Edge Mentors are also expected to abstain from the use, possession, or influence of alcohol, illegal drugs, or other controlled substances while performing duties and residing on UD’s campus. Please note that failure to adhere to these expectations may result in disciplinary action, including immediate relief of duties from the position. 

Qualifications:  

  • 2.75+ GPA
  • Current undergraduate student 
  • Interest and/or experience working with students from first-generation and/or income-limited backgrounds
  • Candidates with at least 1 year of experience in positions such as resident assistants, camp counselors, peer mentors, tutors, etc. are preferred. Candidates will be placed in either the Academic, Interpersonal, or Residential component based on their experience, interest, and needs of the program. 
  • Have demonstrated values such as serving students, diversity, teamwork, respect, and harmony
