About the department/center:

“Seeing Wilmington in PrEP Educational Materials” is a collaborative Fall 2026 print and digital project undertaken through a partnership between the University of Delaware and AIDS Delaware. 

The project will use research on HIV/AIDS activist history and decades of outreach to inform a set of educational materials about PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis, a primary tool of HIV prevention) that reflect the demographic range and lived experiences of Wilmington residents. Extending from AIDS Delaware’s 40+ years of caring for and educating people living with HIV and people at risk of exposure to HIV, this project seeks to recognize the various identities of the people that AIDS Delaware serves and to create educational materials in which all Wilmington residents see themselves.

Role Description:

Funded by a 2026 Wilmington Partnership mini-grant, the project will create two short (2- 3 minute) educational videos and design and print 200 copies each of three educational flyers and postcards that reflect AIDS Delaware’s client base and the geographic context of Wilmington 

We seek two graduate assistants who will work a total of 40 hours each at $25 an hour between August - December 2026 (about three hours per week during the semester, including periodic meetings via Zoom and in-person)

The graduate assistants will be responsible for working with Dr. Davy Knittle (UD English) to recruit undergraduate theater students to participate in the videos, to script and plan the videos, to shoot and edit the videos, and to design and distribute the print materials.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Recruit undergraduate theater students as actors
• Participate in focus group with staff of AIDS Delaware
• Travel to Wilmington to shoot footage for videos
• Script and plan videos
• create two short (2- 3 minute) educational videos
• design and print 200 copies each of three educational flyers and postcards that reflect AIDS Delaware’s client base and the geographic context of Wilmington 
• distribute print materials
• work collaboratively with other graduate assistant and with Dr. Davy Knittle, who is directing the project

Qualifications:  

• Experience shooting and editing video (informal experience is fine!) 
• Punctuality, organization, and capacity to manage a complex project 
• Familiarity with graphic design tools (if you’ve made a poster for an event using Canva, that counts!) 
• Interest in histories of health activism, education, and outreach  
• Familiarity with Wilmington and interest in learning about health education in Wilmington

Eligibility for Graduate Student Employment

Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate program at the University of Delaware and be in good academic standing. In order to be considered for additional on-campus employment, applicants’ combined on-campus employment, including teaching, research and graduate assistantship, must not exceed 29.5 hours per week.

Graduate students on contract may hold additional employment, on campus or off, up to 29.5 hours per week total without approval by the student’s program, the student’s advisor or the Graduate College. However, graduate students on contract are encouraged to discuss additional employment with their advisors to avoid any situations that might hinder timely progress toward the degree.
