Overview: |
Under the general direction of the Vice President and Dean of Students(VP/DOS), the Associate Dean of Student Affairs serves in the Dean’s absence and provides leadership for a portfolio of departments and division initiatives that will enhance opportunities for student engagement, satisfaction and retention. The Associate Dean is a member of the Student Affairs Leadership team and partners with the VP/DOS, the AVP of Campus Life, Associate Dean of Health and Wellness, and the and Dean of Graduate Student Affairs to represent the division across campuses. The Associate Dean serves as the primary point of contact and programs for parents, and families and supervises the directors of the offices of Residential Life, Housing and Student Conduct. |

Responsibilities:
|
- Management, Administration, and Supervision
- Articulates the vision and mission of Student Affairs throughout the university and represents the division in the absence of the Vice President & Dean of Students as appropriate
Provides leadership and direction to the Directors in the Offices of Residential Life, Housing and Student Conduct, and collaborates with the Associate Dean of Student Affairs for Health and Wellness on addressing concerns related to CARE referrals
- Supervises the Dean of Students office clerical and student staff and coordinates office coverage
- Directs the development of annual goals, objectives, and timetables for assigned areas
- Develops long range planning, strategic direction, service provision, and efficient facility utilization for programs and services in Residential Life, Housing, Student Conduct and develops effective interface between these and other departments within the Division and across the University
- Coordinates marketing, communication, website and social media strategies for areas of supervision
- Develops and manages assigned budgets, approves expenses, and provides fiscal oversight to areas of supervision
- Serves as "point of contact" for parents and family members and works to resolve parent and family issues
- Serves as a point person for students with food and /or housing insecurity and maintains contacts and relationships with area social service agencies
- Liaise with Public Safety regarding student issues
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Conduct and Campus Climate
- Serves as hearing officer or appeals officer for high level and high-profile cases
- Provides oversight and coordination of student affairs policies, procedures, and emergency protocol involving students and advises staff on appropriate actions and steps
- Divisional Assessment and Program Evaluation
- Assists staff in the development and assessment of program outcomes
- Supports staff in developing plans of action for continuous improvement based on outcomes assessment
- Develops and presents end of semester and annual reports for areas of responsibility
- Division Wide Responsibilities
- Supports programs and initiatives under the University Strategic Plan
- Coordinates divisional participation in Admissions and other institutional events
- Serve as part of the administrative back up rotation for residential and off campus incidents and emergency response as needed
- Develops and maintains on -going communication from the division to parents and families
- Ensure university alignment with national best practices and maintain active membership and involvement in regional and national associations
- Provides guidance to division on annual strategic planning and goal setting
- Updates website, brochures, student handbook, and forms as directed and needed for the division
- Represents Division of Student Affairs on assigned university-wide committees
- Leads, plans and attends trainings, retreats, and planning sessions as needed
- Maintains a high profile at residential student programs and athletic events
- Attends evening and weekend events as necessary

Education Requirements: |
- Master's degree required
- Doctorate preferred
|
Qualifications: |
- Minimum eight (8) years of student affairs professional work experience with progressive responsibility in a college or university setting
- Demonstrated outstanding leadership and strong supervisory experience
- Ability to deal sensitively with confidential information and ensure that the office maintains a high degree of professionalism and discretion
- Clearly understands and can articulate and promote the critical importance around practices of inclusive excellence and diversity in higher education Provides direct experience with crisis management in a higher education environment
- Evidences strong problem solving, conflict resolution, and excellent personal judgment
- A commitment and ability to engage students in the learning process through intentional planning and a high level of personal contact
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with individuals from varied backgrounds.
