Responsibilities:
The Graduate Assistant in the Office of Community Service will assist the Director and Assistants to complete departmental functions with a primary focus on supporting student service-based organizations and routinely connecting with community work study students and performance feedback. This Assistantship will provide an individual the opportunity to work on student engaged initiatives, provide guidance and support to student organizations and student employees. A Graduate Assistant will work on other departmental projects and University-wide programs as assigned. Graduate Assistant will report to the Director of the Office of Community Engagement, and work directly with Office Assistants and the University community.
Program Planning and Advisement:
In conjunction with Director, will conduct outreach to students employed by the office in the surrounding community providing guidance, periodic check-ins, performance evaluation discussions and trainings on relevant topics
Provides support and advisement to students and student organizations planning and conducting community service projects
Responsible for designing at least two off-campus community service programs that actively engage students in the community
Will design and deliver presentations outlining best-practices for community engagement and student organization management
Responsible for assisting with the coordination and implementation of the Bobcat Community Builders Program and Civic Engagement programming throughout the academic year
Will work with the Office Assistants on campus outreach and promotion of community volunteer opportunities, Alternative Break Trips and other responsibilities as assigned
Student Organization Outreach:
Will identify, meet and discuss service initiatives with student organizations
Will serve as the advisor for Habitat for Humanity and Alpha Phi Omega
Will assist in coordinating the Service Fair and staffing the event
Will work with athletic and fraternal student organizations to better understand their service interests and coordinate initiatives and projects of interest with the Office
Will work with Multi-cultural student organizations to develop and strengthen their service initiatives and work in conjunction on the planning of co-sponsored community service and educational events
Encourages students to plan, create, and implement events while fostering the development of their leadership skills
Office of Community Service Staff Member:
Will serve as the Leader for the Winter Break Service Experience
Uphold University policies and procedures as outlined in the Student Handbook
Maintains scheduled office hours in the Office of Community Engagement
Assists with the Be Kind, Leave Your Food Behind end of the year food drive throughout and following exam week in the spring semester
Works on other projects and programs as assigned
Assists with staffing for Open House, Admission’s Events and other University Events as assigned
Qualifications:
Valid US Driver’s License – This position will require the use of a 12 passenger vehicle
Undergraduate Degree
Good interpersonal skills
Strong oral and written communication skills
Proficient with Microsoft Office including, Word, Excel and Outlook
Experience with event planning
Experience volunteering or working with with non-profits
Experience with marketing and advertising is helpful
Hours of Position:
Typical hours will be M-F during the work day.
This position will have regular evening and weekend responsibilities.
