Job Summary

The CSUF Office of Alumni Engagement is seeking a Social Media Student Assistant to serve as content creator for various social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, X (formally known as Twitter), YouTube and LinkedIn. 

The Social Media Student Assistant is supervised by the Associate Director of Communications. 

This position involves a multifaceted role where you will be tasked with creating engaging content, designing visually appealing graphics, scheduling posts, and maintaining our social media platforms. The ideal candidate will possess a versatile skill set, comfortable both in front and behind the camera. Responsibilities are largely completed independently and online. Excellent writing and time allocation skills are required for this position.

Responsibilities 

85% 

  • Content Creation: Develop and produce high-quality, engaging content for various social media platforms, including but not limited to Instagram, X, Facebook, and LinkedIn. 

  • Design: Design and draft visually stunning graphics and multimedia content that aligns with our brand and engages our target audience for social media platforms. 

  • Scheduling: Update the content calendar continuously and schedule posts across platforms to maintain a consistent and active social media presence. 

  • Strategy: Develop strategies and content to increase followership and engagement. 

  • Platform Maintenance: Monitor social media accounts, responding to comments and messages promptly, and keeping profiles up to date with relevant information. (Maintain posts, stories/highlights, messages/replies, Linktree, and more.) Monitor the CSUF Alumni social media platforms daily. 

  • Trends and Innovation: Stay informed about social media trends and explore innovative ways to enhance our online presence. 

  • Collaboration: Work closely with other team members to align social media efforts with overall marketing and communication strategies.

  • Additional Graphics: Make occasional posts to cross-promote events hosted by other departments. 

5% 

  • Analytics: Compile, track and analyze social media metrics/reports to assess the performance of campaigns and adjust strategies accordingly. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Proficiency in social media platforms including Facebook, X, Instagram, and YouTube 

  • Proficient in graphic design tools and video editing software. 

  • Punctuality and dependability 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 

  • Ability to work independently and work on several ongoing or weekly tasks 

  • Attention to detail 

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to learn new processes and programs quickly 

  • Flexibility and a positive attitude 

  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines 

  • Experience with graphic design, photography, video and video production is a plus. 

  • Ability to work up to 20 total hours during the week (occasional evening and weekend assignments).  

  • Scheduling is flexible, to be arranged with supervisor 

Required Qualifications

  • Attention to detail 

  • Experience in maintaining social networking sites (Facebook, X and Instagram) for a company, organization, club, etc.  

  • Knowledge of social media monitoring tools (Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Buffer, Linktree)  

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a job or educational setting, working independently with minimal supervision  

  • Demonstrated writing and editing experience for a website, social media platform, publication, newspaper, or magazine.  

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop and Premiere) and Canva 

  • Photography and videography skills 

Background Check

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for this position. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
