Department Overview:

 The University of Wisconsin Department of Family Medicine and Community Health is a large, tier-one clinical department in the UW School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH). UW DFMCH has 171 faculty, 261 adjunct faculty, and 110 staff located throughout the state. Combined with its associated UW Health clinic operation, the department boasts over 750 total employees transforming health care in Wisconsin. The DFMCH is committed to patient care while also offering outstanding educational and research programs. There are over 150 residents in our sponsored and academic partner programs, and more than 400 medical students train in the department each year, with the Madison residency program ranking fifth in the nation for 2023. In fiscal year 2022, our physicians and residents practicing at 18 clinics throughout the state managed over 358,000 patient visits—an integral part of the department’s success. Schedule:

 This position is expected to work 8 to 12 hours per week. The schedule will be determined upon hire based upon incumbent's availability and OCH team needs. This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

$34.27

This is an hourly position using the minimum campus stipend levels for 2025-26. The minimum hourly rate is $34.27 per hour. This appointment will be up to 30% FTE (12 hours/week). Tuition remission and health insurance are not included.

Qualifications:

 Required:
• Current student in a graduate-level program in Public Health, Social Work, Anthropology, Health Services, or a related field.
• Formal training and/or experience with applying analytic skills in qualitative methods, specifically collecting or analyzing interview or focus group data, as evidenced by coursework or completed projects.
• Basic understanding of statistical methods (e.g., linear regression, descriptive statistics).
• Strong interest in understanding and assessing community needs using a health equity lens.
• Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team that includes both community and health system partners to produce specified deliverables.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills. Highly organized and attentive to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Preferred Qualifications and Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
• Previous experience with qualitative analysis software (e.g., NVivo, Atlas.ti, Dedoose, MAXQDA).
• Previous experience developing logic models and conducting program evaluation.
• Lived experience residing and/or working in or with underserved communities.
• Ability to balance multiple demands simultaneously under time constraints.
• Interest or experience in manuscript writing.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The Project Assistant will be a member of the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health (DFMCH) Office of Community Health (OCH) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The Project Assistant will be supervised by the OCH Research Scientist, Dr. Sarah Hohl. The OCH promotes and enhances community health and health equity-related efforts in education, research and patient care. The Project Assistant will work with the Research Scientist and members of the OCH team to conduct literature reviews, analyze qualitative data, communicate findings, and identify and enhance partnership opportunities. The Project Assistant will work across three OCH priority areas: health workforce development including community health worker wellness and capacity building, nutrition security, and chronic disease management. Mentorship in qualitative methods will be provided, as well as opportunities to present at meetings and to serve as co-author on publications.

Job Duties:
Research, assessment, and evaluation (70%)
• Collaborate with OCH team to conduct a scoping review to assist the OCH in defining and refining a strategic plan for community-engaged Food is Medicine in primary care
• Collaborate with scientific team to conduct interviews, clean, code, and analyze qualitative interview data using various qualitative analytic methodologies (e.g., thematic analysis, constant comparison)
• Contribute to annual program evaluation (qualitative and quantitative analyses) and report writing for an ongoing family medicine training and mentorship program
• Implement qualitative data organization and analysis plans with oversight from Research Scientist

Project dissemination and communication (10%)
• Support project team to share findings and actionable insights through presentations and publications
• Conduct literature reviews

Complete other project activities as required (20%)
• Contribute to positive relationships with clinical, university, and community partners through efficient and professional interaction on current and new projects
• Support grant writing
• Conduct administrative duties, including scheduling meetings and data collection activities (interviews, focus groups), note taking, and team communication
