About the role 

We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Officer – Play Assets and Facilities to join our Operations team within the Infrastructure Directorate.

In this role, you will deliver the effective management, maintenance, and renewal of Early Years Hubs, Kindergartens, Playgroups, and Open Space Playground Assets, ensuring safe, high-quality, and sustainable outcomes for the community. Working in partnership with Family and Children’s Services and other internal stakeholders, you will plan and deliver Capital Works programs aligned with Master Plans, budgets, and playground standards.

You will also provide leadership and direction to Playground Inspectors, contractors, and other team members, ensuring works are delivered to service level expectations, in compliance with relevant Australian Standards, legislation, and Codes of Practice. This position will play a key role in embedding sustainability principles, promoting workplace safety, and fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.

This is a full-time, Band 6 role based at Knox Civic Centre with a remuneration range of $98,353.35 – $107,416.64 per annum plus superannuation (pro-rata for part time). We support flexible working arrangements while ensuring operational needs of the role are met.


What you will bring to this role

The key selection criteria for this role are:

  • Demonstrated experience in open space maintenance and project management, including sound knowledge of playground asset management and standards.
  • Proven supervisory skills with the ability to lead, motivate, and support staff and contractors to achieve performance outcomes.
  • Strong contract management skills, including conducting meetings, processing payments, and undertaking performance audits.
  • Sound knowledge of OH&S, the Road Management Act, and the Code of Practice for Traffic Management.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Project) and confidence in using industry-relevant technology.
  • Tertiary qualification in Horticulture, Sustainability, Parks Management, Turf Management (or substantial relevant supervisory experience).
  • Current Level 2 (minimum) Certification in Playground Safety, Standards, and Maintenance.
  • A current Victorian Driver Licence and Working with Children Check.
