Your new role

We have an exciting opportunity for a strong people leader to join the Community Strengthening team at Knox City Council as the Coordinator Social Policy and Wellbeing. Bring your passion and skills in people leading, health promotion, gender equality, family violence prevention, social policy and community planning to develop policies, strategies and programs that work towards achieving positive health and wellbeing outcomes for the Knox community.  The coordinator will lead, plan and oversee the strategic development and delivery of evidence based public health and social policies. Integral to the role is the ability to develop and foster partnerships both within Knox Council and with key external stakeholders to develop innovative programs that respond to the health and wellbeing of the Knox community.


This is a full time permanent role based at Knox Civic Centre in Wantirna South however we can offer a range of flexible work options for the right candidate.

This is a Band 8 classified role, remuneration will be $125,409.17 - $140,806.03 (depending on experience) plus superannuation in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee.

What you will need to thrive

The key selection criteria for this role are:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Health Promotion, Social Policy/Planning or similar with substantial relevant experience. A Postgraduate qualification is an advantage.
  • Strong professional leadership skills with a genuine commitment to embedding the organisation’s values within teams.
  • Highly developed policy development experience including writing, implementing, monitoring and reviewing of key social and public health policies.
  • Demonstrated experience in Local Government or a non-government organisation delivering community program and initiatives focused on community strengthening and partnerships.
  • Highly developed understanding of health promotion, gender equality, family violence and the relative legislative and policy requirements that are relevant to the portfolios such as Gender Impact Assessments and Municipal Health and Wellbeing Plans.
  • An understanding of community planning and its principles.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing effective partnerships with community organisations and stakeholders.
