The Position
Knox City Council is seeking to appoint an outstanding Director City Liveability to lead a diverse, multidisciplinary portfolio at the intersection of long-term strategic planning and everyday community outcomes. This role will shape a thriving, inclusive and future-focused community, now and for generations to come.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director City Liveability provides strategic advice and stewardship to deliver community aligned planning and a wide range of critical services. The role works directly with Councillors, government and key stakeholders to influence outcomes, represent Council and position Knox to respond to current and emerging challenges.
The role oversees four portfolio areas with 128 FTE: City Futures (including strategic planning), City Planning and Building, City Projects (including the major Knox Central precinct development) and City Safety and Health,
As an accountable and performance driven leader you will bring an enterprise-wide mindset to the Executive Leadership Team to build an organisational culture that supports Council’s vision, mission, values and strategic ambition.
The successful appointee will bring significant executive leadership experience, ideally with expertise in urban planning, city shaping or related functions, together with a strong understanding of the legislative, policy and regulatory environment relevant to local government. You will have a strong focus on customer experience and community engagement.

The Organisation
The municipality of Knox is approximately 25 kilometres from the Melbourne central business district. It covers an area of 114 square kilometres and consists of the suburbs of Bayswater, Boronia, Ferntree Gully, Knoxfield, Lysterfield, Rowville, Scoresby, The Basin, Upper Ferntree Gully, Wantirna and Wantirna South.
