Position Summary: The National Academy of Railroad Sciences (NARS) is seeking an experienced welding trainer. The NARS welding trainer will teach welding classes (Thermite, Frog, Rail and Switch point, Basic Welding, Elements of Welding, Mechanical, Structural and other welding classes) to BNSF employees and general college student populations. The trainer will participate in railroad update training. Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

  • American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector with 7 years welding industry experience
    OR American Welding Society Certified Welding Educator with 7 years welding industry experience
    OR Associates degree with 5 years welding industry experience.
  • Knowledge of safety in the metal fabrication industry.
  • Ability to teach entry-level welding skills using lecture, demonstration and lab activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher with 3 years welding experience.
  • AWS CWI/CWE certifications.
  • Two years of teaching welding.
  • Experience in vocational training of adults.

Position Details: Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Teach classes – Teach welding classes at JCCC for BNSF and other railroad employees.
  • Attendance - Professors expected to be here to teach each class. NOTE: These classes are normally M-F 7:00 -4:00 pm.
  • Training – Must complete required college training and attend mandatory meetings as scheduled.
  • Communication – Must be able to communicate effectively with students and peers.
