Summary of Position: Under the supervision of the Wege Prize Coordinator and in collaboration with the Wege Prize Academic Liaison, this position will lead event planning and recruitment for the Wege Prize competition. Required work hours will vary to include evenings and weekends. The position will work in Grand Rapids and surrounding areas to secure vendors and promote Wege Prize to key audiences. This is a part-time (not to exceed 28 hours per week), temporary, grant-funded position that will run through the conclusion of the 2026 competition cycle (June 30, 2026).

Required Education: Bachelor's degree. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Equivalency for education is two years of related work experience equals one year of education.  
Required Work Experience: Previous experience in event planning and project management.

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: Professional certifications in Project Management, Events Management, or related experience preferred.  
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Under direction from the Wege Prize Coordinator, lead event and travel planning for annual applicant recruitment, the Wege Prize Awards, and surrounding events for judges, participants, and other stakeholders.
Research, select, and supervise vendors, conduct site visits, book venues, draft guest lists, develop and finalize contracts.
Lead and facilitate all event logistics including, but not limited to, invitations, preparing venues, and arranging for catering, traveler accommodations, equipment, décor, and marketing materials.
Support, promote, and develop University student enrollment and retention initiatives.
Demonstrate an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Identify recruitment opportunities and communications to boost competition participation and function as an official representative of Wege Prize at recruiting-related activities, presenting to a variety of internal and external audiences.
Acquire and maintain expert knowledge of Wege Prize and the circular economy to provide explanation and interpretation of eligibility requirements and the competition process to prospective and current applicants and other stakeholders.
Perform any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
 
Marginal Duties/Responsibilities: Under direction of the Wege Prize Coordinator and in collaboration with KCAD and Ferris State University Purchasing staff, facilitate the processing and payment of judges’ honorariums and cash prize awards to winning participants.
