Summary of Position: |
To direct and coordinate and oversee all aspects of Division 1 Varsity Hockey program to include recruiting, practice planning, student-athlete development, student athlete retention, monitoring of academic progress, assist in promoting team and enhancing ticket sales, fund raising (including direct work with Blueline Club and Solid Ice), summer camp, deal professionally with all media obligations, and adhere to NCAA, CCHA, and University policies and guidelines.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities: |
Exhibit strong leadership and professionalism in dealing with student-athletes, maintain integrity beyond reproach and foster a motivating environment while operating a program with a high degree of discipline and accountability.
Work collaboratively within the Athletic Department and campus community.
Develop and implement daily practice and game planning.
Develop a competitive Division I Hockey program.
Support and monitor student athletes academic success.
Supervision of Assistant Coaches
Conduct program with honesty and integrity per NCAA and CCHA rules.
Work with Strength and Conditioning Coach to monitor individual player and team success.
Coordinate game scheduling and team travel.
Manage budget, expenditures, purchasing and scholarship allocation processes.
Coordinate fundraising, camps and revenue generating initiatives designed to balance annual budget.
Coordinate, establish and maintain recruiting connections nationwide and internationally to expand the brand of Ferris State University and Bulldog Hockey as well as maintain the strong footprint within the state of Michigan and region.
Maintain good working relations with all media platforms including print, social media, television, and radio.
Operates university motor vehicles safely while carrying out job responsibilities.
Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Support, promote, and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives.
Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.

Marginal Duties/Responsibilities: |
Represent the University at conferences and seminars related to athletics as well as be available to serve on conference, regional and national committees. |
|
Skills and Abilities: |
Head coach must exhibit clear and effective communication skills both orally and written. Must have experience in budget management, recruiting, and fund raising. Must have supervisory experience and an awareness/knowledge of NCAA rules an regulations. Demonstrated commitment, experience, and understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging. |
