Based in an idyllic rural setting in North Richmond, NSW, San Miguel is a child-centred family residential service providing intensive, individualised support to vulnerable young parents and their children. San Miguel aims to transform the lives of young parents and their children by improving their safety, wellbeing and life prospects.

San Miguel is a unique service that plays a critical role in keeping children safe and well and keeping young families together. Parents and children receive support from a multi-disciplinary team through a combination of on-site and community-based interventions that ensure children are engaged in safe, developmentally appropriate activities and their parents are supported to set and pursue family and personal goals.

After a recent review of the San Miguel model, some exciting opportunities have become available to ensure we can continue to deliver this vital program to a targeted cohort now and into the future.

We have opportunities for experienced Case Workers and Parenting and Child Development Workers.

The Case Worker - Families provides individual and family case management for young children and their families that improves emotional and physical wellbeing and enables them to keep themselves and their families safe.

Your role will include:

• provide intensive family-based casework intervention
• act decisively to protect children from harm
• work collaboratively with parents to build their parenting confidence and skills
• work with the whole family to strengthen the protective bonds between parents and children

The Parenting and Child Development Worker works in collaboration with the Case Worker -Families to support young parents and their children to improve their emotional and physical wellbeing and improve parent’s skills in parenting and developing their children.

Your role will include:

• provide assessment and support to young parents and their children
• develop and deliver activities that support children to be physically and emotionally safe and learn new skills
• support parents to develop their parenting skills and build positive, secure attachments with their children

what we are looking for

With a flexible and mature approach to work, you can work independently as well as part of a team and understand how to build relationships with a wide range of people. You will be creative and collaborative by nature and will enjoy working through a different approach to each client and situation and will thrive in a dynamic environment where no two days are the same!

You will bring:

• passion, commitment and belief in young people
• experience working with vulnerable children and families with complex needs
• a minimum of Diploma qualification in Human Services or related field
• demonstrated understanding of child protection and assessing and managing risk
• Case Worker will need to be able to demonstrate a strong case management background
• Parenting and Child Development Worker will need experience in developing and implementing innovative programs such as parenting and mothercraft skills, playgroups and other programs that foster children’s development
