Are you passionate about water? Come join us as a Hydrologist in the River Operations Center at LCRA! We are located in Austin, overlooking the Colorado River and Tom Miller Dam. In this role, you will work alongside a dedicated team of engineers and hydrologists to manage the precious water resource of the lower Colorado River during drought and floods. Our ideal candidate will be a motivated person who is able to work with an awesome team, has a strong background in hydrology and river systems, and knowledge of computer modeling systems. You will be trusted to:
- Perform daily water supply calculations using RiverWare and Excel models to schedule releases from the Highland Lakes. - Run and analyze data to be dispersed to internal and external customers. - Support flood operations by monitoring weather and Hydromet gauges to assist in release decisions. - Act as a point of contact for internal and external customers to answer questions or provide knowledge and expertise on water supply, flood conditions and water control decisions.
You qualify with:
- Four or more years of experience in hydrology, such as performing equipment installation/maintenance, hydrologic data collection and hydrologic analysis or relevant experience. - A degree(s) in hydrology, water resources, electronics, engineering or relevant field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience. - Driver's license
You are a great fit with:
- Knowledge of hydrology principles and practices. - Knowledge of reservoir systems and dam operations, and creating forecast from hydrologic data. - Knowledge of regulatory requirements, inter-agency agreements and LCRA contracts, directives and policies relative to flood and water supply operations. - Skill in communicating effectively with team members, supervision/management and external organizations under normal and emergency conditions. - Ability to work in a team environment.
