LCRA is looking for Network Engineer II to join our team. As a part of LCRA’s Digital Services team, your expertise will contribute to an organization that strives to enhance the quality of life of the Texans we serve. At an intermediate level, plans, designs, installs and troubleshoots network systems including local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), wireless, VoIP, video teleconferencing and networks supporting data center networking and operations. Designs the configuration of physical and logical network components. Assists in the design of the network architecture, designs the network infrastructure and plans and designs network solutions. Performs capacity and resource planning, assessing network risks and contingency planning. Implements and maintains network management software. Researches, analyzes and implements software patches or hardware changes to fix any network deficiencies. Provides Tier 2 support. Involved in the evaluation of new products and services and may manage vendor service level agreements. This position utilizes knowledge and experience in own discipline but is still building higher-level knowledge and skills. Receives a moderate level of guidance and direction from supervisor, manager and/or more experienced colleagues.
You will be trusted to:
- Design, install and troubleshoot networks incorporating content switching, firewall, VPN, video teleconferencing, routing and LAN switching. - Proactively monitor, analyze and review multi-platform computing environment and execute problem avoidance practices in order to maintain a high level of reliability and availability. - Identify best and least cost network solutions that meet stringent security and availability requirements. - Solve problems causing network outages including identifying issues with hardware, operating system, application and capacity. - Act as the owner of a problem through resolution. Analyze issue and take actions to resolve problems (including Root Cause Analysis and Problem Remediation). - Draft, update and follow detailed work instructions relating to network maintenance. - Act as subject matter expert while working with vendors, documenting best practices and configuring network tools. - Document changes made to systems or equipment through appropriate communications and record keeping practices. Document work into logs, files, system prints and other records and through communications, both verbal and written, with other team members and supervisors.
You qualify with:
- Six or more years of experience in network administration or other IT related field or relevant experience. A degree(s) in information technology, computer science or relevant field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience.
