Join LCRA in helping make ERCOT and the Texas utility grid more resilient as a Reliability Engineer in the Transmission Services Department. As a Transmission Reliability Engineer, you will be involved in the integration of one of the first synchronous condensers in both ERCOT and LCRA. The role begins immediately in supporting construction and commissioning of the synchronous condenser project (currently in the design review phase). Continuing after commissioning, the role will be responsible for overseeing the reliability of the Synchronous Condenser and auxiliary systems, with possible participation in the future synchronous condenser additions to LCRA’s fleet. Based in Austin, TX, this role will require semi-frequent travel to West Texas (Midland/Odessa area) during the construction and commissioning of the project and occasional travel for troubleshooting and maintenance oversight of the plant after startup.

The Transmission Reliability Engineer will play a key role in supporting the commissioning process of a new synchronous condenser, ensuring seamless integration and reliable operation. The engineer will also manage the balance of plant systems that support the synchronous condenser, such as cooling, lubrication, HVAC, electrical, and control systems. The role will be actively involved in the review of design, construction, commissioning and maintenance processes, ensuring all systems are aligned with reliability and performance standards.

You will be trusted to:

- Support Commissioning: Assist in the commissioning of the new synchronous condenser by providing technical support, ensuring systems are integrated smoothly, and addressing reliability concerns during the process.
- Balance of Plant (BoP) Systems: Oversee and optimize the performance of balance of plant systems (e.g., cooling, lubrication, electrical, HVAC, and control systems) that support the synchronous condenser.
- Reliability Monitoring & Reporting: Monitor the ongoing reliability of the synchronous condenser and associated BoP systems, identifying and addressing any issues before they impact performance.
- Root Cause Analysis: Investigate and analyze performance or failure issues related to both synchronous condensers and balance of plant systems, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Predictive Maintenance: Develop and implement predictive maintenance strategies for both the synchronous condenser and BoP systems, leveraging data analytics to anticipate potential failures and minimize downtime.
- Collaboration & Communication: Collaborate with cross-functional teams (including mechanical, electrical, and project engineering teams) to ensure system integration and performance optimization.

You qualify with:

- Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas
- Driver's license

You are a great fit with:

- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering. Other engineering degrees considered based on relevant experience.
- Candidates without a Texas Professional Engineer License will be considered as an Engineering Associate until a Texas PE License is obtained.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in reliability engineering, with a focus on rotating machinery (turbines, pumps, compressors, generators or synchronous condensers)
- Ability and willingness to travel to West Texas (Midland/Odessa area) for construction and commissioning support (Summer 2026- Fall 2028)
- Hands-on experience with commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimizing synchronous condensers or similar large rotating machinery.
- Experience with balance of plant system maintenance and operations in power generation, oil/gas, or industrial manufacturing (semiconductor).

You gain:

- Competitive salary & medical, dental, vision and legal insurance

- Paid time off, including time for vacation, sick and family care leave

- 401(k) match up to 8% that includes a student loan 401(k) contribution program option
