Through employment with the LCRA System P&C department you will be given the opportunity to be involved with testing and commissioning the protective devices that ensure the reliability of the electric grid in central Texas, get an in-depth knowledge and understanding of protection not only for the Transmission grid but also in the protection of power generation. This job will also allow you to travel across the eastern region of central Texas extending through some of the most picturesque landscape extending down toward the gulf coast and the Texas Valley. You will be trusted to:
- Assists with complex projects involving LCRA System Operations, Generation, LCRA System Protection Engineering, LCRA Telecommunications, LCRA Network Services and ERCOT. - Assists in performing the duties required to install, operate, and maintain protective and auxiliary relays and related equipment in generating station switchyards, switching stations, substations, and customers' installations. - Inspects, cleans, tests, and makes adjustments to relays; removes or replaces all types of relays and associated equipment; makes repairs and modifications involving the replacement, addition, or substitution of parts. - Assists in performing complex maintenance, installation, commissioning, and integration tasks on equipment, including but not limited to Protective Relays, Windows based computers, Human Machine Interfaces, Digital Fault Recorders, and other related equipment and peripherals. - Uses vendor software to configure and implement customer-specific and equipment-specific requirements and programs. - Assist engineering and purchasing with the testing/evaluation of new equipment and technologies for potential long-term agreements. - Assists with modifications of system documentation and drawings including, but not limited to, departmental procedures, schematics, diagrams and spreadsheets. - Analyzes, evaluates, and corrects anomalies in control related systems. - Develops and summarizes test results, trouble reports and required records for protection related equipment. Assists with NERC and ERCOT required documentation. - Operates handheld manual tools and power tools in performing installation and maintenance tasks. - Follows LCRA Safety and Operating Procedures. - Performs work by traveling independently or with a small crew to various locations (substations, power plants, water systems, etc.) as scheduled.
You qualify with:
- One or more years of experience in the construction and/or maintenance of power substation protection, diagnostic, monitoring and/or control systems or other relevant experience. A degree(s) in electrical power theory, electronics, instrumentation, controls, computer science or relevant field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience. - Driver’s license
