Essential Job Functions: | 1. Conducts preliminary reviews of all research protocols (biomedical and social-behavioral) submitted via expedited or full review procedures. 2. Communicates with IRB Chair, members, and study staff (as applicable). 3. Works with researchers in the development and revision of research protocols to meet federal and state laws, applicable laws of international jurisdictions, NSU policies, and acceptable ethical standards for research, with respect to the protection of human subjects. 4. Collaborates with the convened IRB, Chairs, and other IRB members to review all research protocols to ensure they meet human subject requirements. This may include independent assessment of exemptions. 5. Develops, maintains, and expands a working knowledge of current state and federal regulations, guidelines, and trends influencing the conduct of human subject research. 6. Coordinates the monthly meetings of the convened IRB; including pre- and post-meeting activities. Activities include, but are not limited to, finalizing agendas, preparation of documents, assignment of lead reviewers, preparation of minutes, correspondence and memo preparation for investigators, and dissemination and record-keeping activities for final IRB meeting minutes. 7. Works with new IRB member orientation and training along with continuing education for current IRB, faculty/staff, and students. 8. Collaborates with the development, creation, and revision of electronic submission forms in the online system, IRB policies and procedures, and guidance documents/presentations for IRB Office and IRB members. 9. Performs other duties and special projects as assigned. |

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: | 1. Ability to maintain working knowledge of current regulations, guidelines, and trends influencing the conduct of human subject research. 2. Proficient knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel); data entry skills; Internet research abilities. 3. Knowledge of office practices and procedures (e.g., filing, answering telephones, and supply/equipment ordering). 4. Word processing ability at 40-50 words per minute. 5. Ability to enter and verify information with accuracy. 6. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. 7. Ability to maintain confidential information. 8. Strong administration skills - organized, thorough, systems orientated with meticulous attention to detail. 9. Proactive, punctual and reliable. 10. Excellent written and oral communication skills. 11. Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues and supervisory staff at all levels. 12. Ability to develop and maintain working relationships within a diverse environment, interacting frequently with faculty, staff, and other university -community representatives. 13. Ability to manage time and resources, including ability to handle a multitude of diverse tasks simultaneously. 14. Ability to work effectively under pressure and to manage stress related to meeting established deadlines and time schedules. 15. Demonstrated ability to complete projects within established time frames. 16. Demonstrated organizational skills and high degree of attention to detail. 17. Knowledgeable of various research methodologies; previous research experience preferred, but not required. |
