Primary Purpose:

Demonstrated expertise in educating students with a prior faculty appointment or by way of clinical expertise as an Occupational Therapist or other responsible professional position related to an academic area of specialization contained within the Health Professions Division. Appointment to the rank of professor requires a record of distinguished scholarship and outstanding teaching ability, evidenced by recognized professional productivity in the field(s) of specialization. Appointment to the rank of associate professor normally requires a record of substantial success in teaching, scholarship, and service. Appointment to the rank of assistant professor requires completion of professional training, which in most disciplines will be a terminal degree (usually the earned doctorate),and the clear promise of a successful career in teaching, scholarship, and service.

Essential Job Functions: 

1. Teaches graduate course(s) in the classroom as assigned.
2. Mentors and facilitates doctoral level dissertations and capstone projects.
3. Selects teaching and evaluation strategies appropriate to the students and setting.
4. Presents ideas clearly.
5. Creates a climate that is conducive to learning.
6. Stimulates intellectual curiosity.
7. Provides and maintains a reliable schedule of office hours for student advising, tutoring, remediation and consultation.
8. Participates in department and college-wide committees and meetings.
9. Engages in curriculum development related to current and new courses.
10. Maintains a personal professional development plan, which may include research and/or other creative activities, to assure growth and currency within the academic field.
11. Maintains an established line of scholarship including scientific inquiry and dissemination to the professional community.
12. Displays behavior consistent with professional ethics.

Job Requirements: 

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals. Ability to effectively present information to students, public groups, or professional organizations in the English language.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with appropriate mathematical concepts specific to the particular discipline. Ability to apply concepts to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.).

Required Certifications/Licensures: Current National Board Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) and State of Florida licensure required as of date of hire.

Required Education: Doctoral Degree

Major (if required: Appropriate area of specialization

Required Experience: 1. Five (5) years of related clinical and/or teaching experience, as well as evidence of scholarship.
2. Must be a graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy program.

Preferred Qualifications: 

Terminal degree with research emphasis.
