The Executive Director leads the department and provides leadership and oversight in the areas of goals, project planning, reporting, supervision, training, and compliance for related University policies and procedures of federal and state civil rights and equal opportunity laws to ensure that employees, students, and visitors are not discriminated against or harassed in employment, educational programs, and activities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned) Provide leadership, spearhead initiatives, and maintain oversight in the areas of goals, project planning, reporting, supervision, training, and compliance for related University policies and procedures of federal and state civil rights and equal opportunity laws to ensure that employees, students, and visitors are not discriminated against or harassed in employment, educational programs, and activities on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, height, weight, genetic information, marital status, disability, and/or veteran status. Act as the designated University Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Officer. Oversee and ensure equal employment opportunity laws for Federal Contractors. Oversee the MTU Title IX staff and functions to ensure that all aspects of federal and state requirements are met for policies, procedures, training, prevention education, reporting, support and assistance, investigation, assessment, and remedy for the faculty, staff, and students. Act as a TIX Deputy Coordinator. Oversee the MTU ADA/Section 504 Coordinator and functions to provide for accommodations for faculty and staff with disabilities, as well as for the prompt and equitable resolution of complaints and inquiries from University employees and visitors regarding discrimination based on disability. Ensure that appropriate processes are in place to enable reporting, as well as equitable resolution of complaints from University employees, students, and visitors regarding discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. Address and formally investigate University protected characteristics harassment, discrimination, and retaliation complaints. Communicate directly with the University President and the Board of Trustees on EOC and TIX initiatives, requirements, and University concerns and issues. Actively work with University General Counsel and Human Resources to resolve issues and complaints, and mitigate risk. Prepare reports and responses for the Department of Education Office of Civil Rights, Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs, and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and similar State agencies. Support Human Resources to ensure fairness in the hiring processes, which includes all University hiring policies and procedures. Work with hiring departments to certify accurate compliance with university policies, as well as employment laws and regulations. Ensure training requirements are met for EOC and TIX staff. Develop and encourage additional professional development opportunities. Supervise EOC and TIX staff to make sure they have the necessary support to complete their duties. Provide and promote student, faculty, and staff training and educational prevention programming in a variety of formats. Oversee department budgets. Participate in and lead project groups on University committees including Search Committees, Conflict Resolution Network, Husky Emergency Assistance Fund and other task-based project work groups. Share information, collaborate and build relationships with key stakeholders, University leadership, and departments across campus to enrich and enhance the University community. Complete confidential tasks that entail careful assessment, decision-making, a high level of integrity, and the ability to quickly focus on and adapt to developing priorities. Listen, empathize, facilitate dialogue, troubleshoot, problem-solve, resolve concerns, and respond to inquiries with diplomacy and tact. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives. Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work. Other duties as assigned. Required Education, Certifications, Licensures Master’s degree from an accredited institution in business, organizational communication, education, higher education administration, social science, human resources, public administration or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired. Required Experience At least 7 years of experience in higher education, human resources, compliance, or other professional areas from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired. At least 2 years of experience working in higher education. At least 2 years of supervisory experience. Desirable Education and/or Experience Demonstrated experience in steering program priorities using strategic planning directives. Demonstrated ability to function effectively in stressful work environments. Demonstrated experience to work effectively independently and collaboratively. Demonstrated ability to build quality relationships with stakeholders. Experience in mediation, restorative justice, and/or other voluntary adaptable resolution pathways. Knowledge of the latest in computing and technology for the University environment, including University online and software systems. Demonstrated understanding of working with STEM staff, faculty and students. Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities Evidence of increasing levels of professional responsibilities demonstrating proficiency in policy/procedure management and conflict management. Demonstrated ability to use judgment when dealing with confidential information. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities.
