North Idaho College Head Start is seeking a compassionate and organized Family Advocate at our Up River center in Fernwood to support families in achieving their goals and strengthening connections within our early childhood program. In this meaningful role, you’ll partner with families through home visits, help identify strengths and needs, and assist in setting and achieving goals that promote family well-being and school readiness.
You’ll guide families through enrollment, conduct developmental and health screenings, and connect them with community resources and support services. Collaboration is key - you’ll work closely with classroom teams, local agencies, and families to ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive. From facilitating parent meetings to providing advocacy and crisis support, your work will make a lasting impact on the lives of children and their caregivers.

Starting pay range: $20.50 - $21.50
Work Site Location: Head Start - Fernwood
Work Schedule: 69% Full-Time, August - June
Minimum Qualifications
Level I: Associates degree in Social Services.
Level II: Bachelors degree in Social Services.
Experience as a staff or volunteer in a preschool classroom
Required License and/or Certifications:
• Register with Idaho STARS and participate in the professional development system.
• Meet all training and certification requirements for childcare licensing and Head Start Program Performance Standards.
• Maintain current Infant/child & Adult CPR and First Aid.
• Meet terms of Statement of Agreement/ Employment Declaration.
• Pass an enhanced criminal background check including fingerprinting, as required by Head Start Program Performance Standards and Child Care Licensing requirements, prior to first day of work.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with people from diverse ethnic, cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
• Working knowledge of computers and commonly used software for Internet and e-mail access, word processing and data collection and management.
• Positive approach to Early Childhood Development programs, health and social services.
• Demonstrated written, oral, and organizational skills.
• Understanding of theories of social work ethics, early childhood education and child and family development including family systems.
• Demonstrate professional ethics and confidentiality.
• Represent the Head Start program in the community and with other professionals, positively and with professionalism.
