The Assistant Professor - Reference & Instruction Librarian plays a key role in advancing information literacy across campus, working with students, faculty, and staff in dynamic classroom, online, and one-on-one environments.
In this role, you will design and deliver engaging library instruction sessions, develop innovative tutorials and learning materials, and lead a comprehensive information literacy program aligned with national standards. You’ll partner closely with faculty to integrate research skills into coursework, provide training on library resources and emerging technologies, and offer in-depth research support through reference services. You’ll also contribute to collection development, supervise the Information Desk team, and collaborate on initiatives that enhance the library’s impact across the college and community.
We’re seeking a librarian with strong instructional, reference, and collaboration skills who can support student learning and partner effectively with faculty and campus stakeholders. The ideal candidate brings strong communication skills, the ability to effectively use and teach library technologies and research tools, and a deep understanding of information literacy principles. Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited institution required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Ability to employ instructional technologies in a library setting, including online tutorials, development of LibGuides, distance learning technologies (e.g., Canvas, Zoom), etc.
• Expertise in teaching the use of unified discovery tools, online databases, link resolvers, interlibrary loan, internet resources, library management systems, etc.
• Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, including an effective and engaging teaching style
• Knowledge of current developments in librarianship and library management
• Ability to provide engaging and high-quality reference and instructional services
• Proficient skills in project management, multi-tasking, and attention to detail
• Demonstrated knowledge of current digital technologies
• Knowledge of systems, specific to the needs of the department (i.e., Alma, Primo, OCLC)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proficient skills using Microsoft Office applications
• Ability to operate standard office equipment including phone, copier, printer
Starting pay range: $58,485 - $81,172
This position is 111% FTE
