Job Summary
The College of Applied Science and Technology is seeking a highly motivated student to fill the role of Communications and Special Events Graduate Assistant for the 2025-2026 academic year. This role will be responsible for written communication and the development of content for the College’s social media sites and the News.IllinoisState.edu hub. This role will also assist with the strategic planning and creative development of events for the College including Science and Technology Week, awards receptions, constituent gatherings, and guest lectures.
Responsibilities include:
• Writing and developing content for a variety of online outlets
• Planning, coordinating, and implementing a variety of special events
• Assisting in the planning and evaluation of special event publicity
• Documenting events for various social media platforms
• Maintaining social media channels
• Other duties assigned as deemed necessary by the College
Salary Rate / Pay Rate
$1510 for 0.5 FTE appointment
Required Qualifications
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 from undergraduate institution
• Valid Driver’s License and/or ability to obtain license
• Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills (both verbal and written), are expected
• Demonstration of oral and written proficiency in the English language
• Knowledge of various social media platforms, including but not limited to: Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
• Eligible for appointment as per the requirements in the Graduate Assistant Handbook which can be found at http://hr.illinoisstate.edu/downloads/GA_Handbook.pdf
• Must be a degree seeking graduate student at Illinois State University in one of the following degree fields: Communication, Marketing, Computer Science, Agriculture, Art, Technology, Public Health, or Recreation Administration

Illinois State University student employees are restricted to no more than 28 hours per week of on-campus employment for all positions held. International students are restricted by their visa status to no more than 20 hours per week of on-campus employment when the university is in session but may work up to 28 hours per week when the university is not in session.
