Job Summary
We are looking for individuals to share their skills, interests, or passions with children ages 5-12 during weeklong, half day exploration sessions. Examples include: photography, cooking, knitting, art, gardening, interior design, etc. Topics will be chosen by you, as the Exploration Leader, and approved by the Program Coordinator.
This summer program will run for nine weeks beginning in June and ending in early August, excluding the week of July 4th. Exploration Leaders are not required to work all nine weeks.
Sessions run from 8:30am-12:00pm and 12:30pm-4:00pm, Monday through Friday with a snack break built in during the session. However, the Exploration Leader will start 15 minutes before the session begins and end 15 minutes after the session in order to help sign kids in and out. Exploration Leaders will be paid for 4 hours of work per session plus up to 8 hours of plan time per session that they lead. Exploration Leaders may work either morning sessions, afternoon sessions, or a combination; will work with Program Coordinator for scheduling.

Salary Rate / Pay Rate
$17.00 - $19.00 per hour
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 19 years of age.
- Previous experience working with children aged 5-12 years.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a lab school classroom setting.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Extra Help employees may only work up to 28 hours per week for all University employment. Employees are only paid for hours worked and do not qualify for most benefits including health insurance and retirement, with Illinois State University. However, Extra Help employees are eligible to participate in the University’s supplemental retirement savings plans (403b). Applicable retirement information is provided at the time of hire. There is no guarantee that working as Extra Help will lead to or secure permanent employment. In addition, extra help employees may only work up to 900 hours total during their employment.
