Job Summary
The Center for Intensive Behavioral Supports (CIBS) project at Illinois State University partners with the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) to develop professional learning and resources to reduce the use of physical restraint, time-out, and isolated time-out (RTO).
CIBS was funded to develop and disseminate training and resource development , which includes annual training focusing on crisis de-escalation, restorative practices, recognizing signs of distress during physical restraint and time-out, trauma-informed practices, behavior management practices, and aligned resources for educators.
The CIBS Project is seeking part-time, temporary Content Developers to contribute to the expansion of professional learning modules and develop high-quality professional learning. Collaborating closely with our instructional design team and under the supervision of the Project Director, the Content Developer will create engaging, relevant, and up-to-date learning modules that align with adult learning standards and best online module practices. This role specifically focuses on developing content related to sensory processing, sensory regulation, and sensory-based interventions to support students in educational settings.
Responsibilities:
- Provide expert knowledge in students with disabilities, sensory processing challenges, and related evidence-based practices.
- Develop interactive and meaningful learning experiences, including engaging activities focused on sensory regulation strategies to support students.
- Author original module content, script/narration, resources, and assessments related to sensory processing, sensory-friendly classroom strategies, and interventions that promote self-regulation.
- Ensure that learning modules address practical applications for educators, therapists, and support staff working with students who have sensory processing needs.
- Collaborate with the instructional design team to incorporate course content into our Learning Management System (LMS).
- Adhere to project timelines and commit to meeting all agreed-upon deadlines.
- Participate in regular check-in meetings to refine course content and make improvements based on feedback.
Additional Information
This is a remote/online position (residency within the state of Illinois is required), with regular communication and collaboration with internal teams. Flexibility and adaptability are key, and occasional travel to ISU may be required.

Salary Rate / Pay Rate
$35.00 - $50.00 per hour
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Applied Sciences or Bachelor's degree
- Extensive experience in with students who have complex learning needs and sensory processing differences
- Knowledge of sensory regulation strategies, environmental modifications, and tools to support students with sensory processing challenges
- Previous experience in course development, preferably in an online higher education setting
- Demonstrated ability to design, develop, and deliver course content, assessments, and instructional materials
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with adherence to academic standards (APA guidelines)
- Familiarity with online teaching platforms and a willingness to adapt to new technological approaches
- Positive attitude, creativity, and a commitment to academic integrity and professional development
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant/Licensed (COTA/L) or Occupational Therapist (OTR/L)

Extra Help employees may only work up to 28 hours per week for all University employment. Employees are only paid for hours worked and do not qualify for most benefits including health insurance and retirement, with Illinois State University. However, Extra Help employees are eligible to participate in the University’s supplemental retirement savings plans (403b). Applicable retirement information is provided at the time of hire. There is no guarantee that working as Extra Help will lead to or secure permanent employment. In addition, extra help employees may only work up to 900 hours total during their employment.
