Job Summary
The Borg Center for Reading and Literacy is seeking a Tutoring Coordinator to coordinate the one-on-one tutoring services in the Borg Center tutoring program. The Tutoring Coordinator will be responsible for recruiting and completing intake of K-8 students for tutoring services, coordinating pre- and post-assessments to identify students' strengths and needs, creating tutoring materials, coordinating and communicating student/tutor schedules, communicating progress with parents/guardians, tutoring four students per week, and working closely with the Borg Center Director to determine needs and make data-informed decisions about programming.

The Mary and Jean Borg Center for Reading and Literacy at Illinois State University was developed as a public service to offer opportunities that facilitate the development of various literacies among the residents of Illinois through service and research. Through a range of programs, partnerships, and collaborations the Center seeks to promote the literacies of all residents, throughout their lifespans, in their homes, schools, workplaces, and communities. The Center achieves this goal by providing service, teaching, and research of use to educators, parents, employers, policymakers, and others. The Center has been successful in developing partnerships with schools, organizations, and communities to share best practices and to provide professional development in literacy education. The Center is committed to involving partners in learning, research, and assessment and developing innovative approaches to disseminating research findings.

Salary Rate / Pay Rate
$25.00 per hour
Required Qualifications
- Experience with reading assessment and lesson planning
- Experience teaching/tutoring students in grades 1-8
- Strong verbal/written communication skills
- Knowledge of or experience with community literacy planning
Work Hours
12:00pm-6:00pm Monday through Thursday; Friday hours are flexible

Extra Help employees may only work up to 28 hours per week for all University employment. Employees are only paid for hours worked and do not qualify for most benefits including health insurance and retirement, with Illinois State University. However, Extra Help employees are eligible to participate in the University’s supplemental retirement savings plans (403b). Applicable retirement information is provided at the time of hire. There is no guarantee that working as Extra Help will lead to or secure permanent employment. In addition, extra help employees may only work up to 900 hours total during their employment.
