Job Summary
The AV Technician will perform maintenance and installation of audiovisual classroom systems. The work also consists of assisting higher level technicians with the setting up and commissioning of audiovisual classroom systems.

This position is open to consideration for varying levels of experience, pay within the salary range will be commensurate with experience.
Learning Spaces and Audio/Visual Technologies is responsible for the maintenance and operational support of the instructional technology in the 198 "general-use" classrooms as well as the 166 "departmental" classrooms across campus. The department also provides demonstrations and training on the use of instructional technology in the classrooms. In addition, Learning Spaces and Audio/Visual Technologies provides design, installation and technical support for colleges, departments, and service units looking to install advanced technology in classrooms and other settings. https://academictechnologies.illinoisstate.edu/learningspaces/

Salary Rate / Pay Rate
$24.62 - $29.48 per hour
Required Qualifications
- High school graduation or equivalent.
- Any combination totaling one year (12 months) from the following categories:
a. progressively more responsible work experience in as an audio-visual technician or closely related profession
b. college course work which included Information Technology, IT Management, Programming, IT systems, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
- 30 semester hours equals one year (12 months)
- 60 semester hours or associate degree equals 18 months
- 90 semester hours equals two years (24 months)
- Bachelor’s or higher degree equals three years (36 months) - At least one year (12 months) of work experience in the maintenance and installation of professional audio-visual systems.
- Knowledge of all of the following:
a. Cable pulling, cable terminating, rack building, and installation practices used for professional audio-visual systems
b. Different types of audio and video signals and cabling used in professional audio-visual systems
c. Professional audio-visual systems integration, system controls, user interfaces, and computer systems
d. Professional audio-visual sub-systems such as lighting systems, electrical systems and signal management, control systems, computer systems, and audio-visual networking
e. Basic test equipment used for installing and troubleshooting professional audio-visual systems (video signal generator, audio signal generator, multimeter) - Skill in maintaining, installing, and operating electronic and electrical equipment
- Ability to read plans and schematics
- Valid U.S. driver’s license and ability to drive a motor vehicle
- Mechanical ability
- Basic computer skills to include Microsoft Excel and Word
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree (or equivalent military or vocational training/experience) in an electrical, electronics, or mechanical technology field
- Experience with networking terminations
- Experience with assigning network information to devices or setting up devices on a network
- Knowledge of AQAV commissioning practices and procedures
- Basic networking skills
- Knowledge of or ability to learn the campus networking tools needed for network jack assignments and IP address assignments
- AVIXA CTS certification
- Experience with the support of Zoom and/or other web conferencing tools and hardware.
Work Hours
8:00am-4:30pm Monday through Friday; occasional weekend and evening hours as business needs dictate
Functional Expectations
Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:

- Ability to move heavy equipment and carry a backpack weighing approximately 15 lbs.

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam.
