Job Summary
As the Social Media Video Intern, you will be responsible for assisting the social media team and videographers in creating engaging videos for Illinois State University's social media accounts from start to finish. The top candidates will have outstanding attention to detail in all aspects of video production. Applicants must have prior experience with professional video equipment and editing software, as well as a solid understanding of various social media platforms.
Duties Include
• Film, edit, interview, and caption video content for university social media platforms.
• Collaborate with the social media team to create short-form video content and simple motion graphics/animations for platforms such as TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and other channels.
• Assist with managing and maintaining the university’s YouTube channel, including organizing content, basic channel branding, and supporting platform best practices.
• Assist the social media team with livestreaming events as needed.
• Support the development and execution of social media campaigns and content strategies.
• Assist the Social Media Specialist and Creative Director of Social Media with filming, lighting, sound, and other aspects of video production as assigned.
• Occasionally coordinate and schedule video shoots with campus partners, students, faculty, and staff for planned video projects.

Our team includes designers, writers, photographers, videographers, social media specialists, and communication strategists who develop compelling content and integrated campaigns that support university priorities, highlight student success, promote events, and strengthen our brand. We produce marketing materials, manage key social channels, and partner with departments across campus to ensure consistent, engaging storytelling that reflects the Redbird spirit. As part of UMC, you’ll gain experience working like a professional creative agency—collaborating on projects, honing your craft, and learning the ins and outs of strategic communication within a large institution.

Pay Rate
$15.00/hour
Required Qualifications
• Experience working with professional video equipment, including manual exposure settings, microphones, and audio recording.
• Working knowledge of video editing software (Adobe Creative Cloud preferred).
• Experience shooting high-quality video using a smartphone.
• Familiarity with social media platforms, particularly TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Must be professional, highly motivated, personable, timely, and possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be in good standing with both academic and University conduct at the time of application and throughout employment.
Work Hours
12 hours per week. The schedule would be agreed upon by the selected applicant, the Creative Director of Social Media, and the Assistant Director.
