The North Coast LLS region NSW is a diverse natural landscape with a mix of temperate and subtropical climates providing nationally recognised biodiversity and wilderness and wetland areas, and complex and diverse soil systems.

The region encompasses Ballina, Bellingen, Byron, Clarence Valley, Coffs Harbour, Kempsey, Kyogle, Lismore, Nambucca, Port Macquarie-Hastings, Richmond Valley or Tweed local government areas.

About the Role

We are looking for someone with strong communication and leadership skills to lead the North Coast Sustainable Agricultural team. In this role you will engage with industry leaders and drive extension strategies to help landholders adapt and innovate farm practices with sustainability at the core. This role will lead senior and junior staff skilled in agronomy, livestock management, plant biosecurity, horticulture, soil health and best practice land management. A key focus will be assisting producers in the North Coast to recover from and prepare for natural disasters.

The team will deliver field days, training and other extension events across the region as well as Sustainable Agriculture incentive projects aimed at improving soils, native vegetation and land management on farms for a more sustainable future.

About You

If you are passionate about agriculture and a proven leader this job is for you. This leadership role will manage a team delivering agricultural advice and extension across the North Coast region.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A degree in agriculture, environment, natural resource management and/or equivalent knowledge and experience
  • Proven leadership experience
  • Strong communication skills to engage with industry stakeholders and collaborate with other teams within North Coast LLS
  • Experience in the delivery of extension to landholders
  • Proven project management skills
  • Demonstrated experience balancing and managing a range of competing and conflicting priorities in a politically sensitive environment.
  • An understanding of the needs and issues facing landholders in the North Coast region.
  • Have a current NSW Class C Divers License and be willing to undertake regular travel within the North Coast region, including overnight trips
