NSW Resources are looking for an Assessment Analyst to join the Title Assessments team for a parental leave backfill opportunity.
About the role:
As an Assessment Analyst, you’ll play a key role in managing the assessment of exploration and mining title applications under the Mining Act 1992 and Petroleum (Onshore) Act 1991.
Your day-to-day will involve interpreting legislation, applying departmental policies, and crafting clear, well-reasoned reports and recommendations for the Titles Review Committee. These reports form the foundation for decisions made by delegated decision makers, so your attention to detail and ability to deliver robust, legally sound assessments in a fast-paced environment will be vital. Meeting defined KPIs will keep you driven, while your input helps ensure timely and accurate processing of title-related actions.
Managing multiple cases with varying complexities, you’ll set a high standard for customer service and contribute to continuous improvement projects—whether it’s updating templates, streamlining processes, or supporting new initiatives. You’ll collaborate closely with colleagues across NSW Resources and serve as a trusted point of contact for titleholders, applicants, and external stakeholders.
About you:
You thrive in detail-oriented settings and are adept at balancing competing priorities without sacrificing quality. Your strong written and verbal communication skills enable you to prepare concise reports and briefing notes and to explain complex concepts in accessible language.
Collaboration comes naturally to you, and you’re energised by working across teams to solve problems and enhance outcomes. Confident with interpreting legislation and applying policy, you’re dedicated to delivering high-quality, customer-focused services.
Tertiary Qualification or relevant experience in a related discipline such as planning, mining, law or science are essential.
Applying for the role: If you are interested in this opportunity, please apply with a (ideally no more than one-page) expression of interest outlining your suitability and interest in this role, with your resume (ideally no more than three pages) by 11.55pm Monday 8 September 2025.
For further information about the role please contact Adam Banister, Manager Assessments & Projects - Coal & Petroleum via adam.banister@regional.nsw.gov.au or 0499 299 570. Alternatively, view the Role Description.
Please note:
Compliance with pre-employment probity screening is mandatory for all roles within NSW Resources and is a condition of engagement.
This is an internal EOI opportunity. To be considered for an appointment for over 12 months or ongoing, applicants must be ongoing at either an equivalent or higher grade than this advertised vacancy (Clerk Grade 7/8) OR on a current and valid talent pool at this grade or higher. Alternatively, if you do not meet the requirement for an ongoing appointment, you may only be considered for a temporary appointment of up to 12 months.
