About the role  

In this role you will support the delivery of the National Heritage Trust “Strong Culture, Healthy Country project”, to strengthen relationships between NTLLS and First Nations Peoples, increase cultural awareness within NTLLS, and identify opportunities to engage First Nations peoples and businesses. You will contribute to planning, monitoring, evaluation, reporting and improvement of programs and projects.

Key accountabilities:

  • Community building, engagement and collaboration with First Nations People and organisations
  • Develop and maintain relationships with Aboriginal communities and organisations to foster opportunities for trusted engagement with NTLLS and promote the sharing of knowledge and information on areas of common interest including traditional land management practices, natural asset protection, sustainable agriculture and biosecurity approaches
  • NHT Implementation: support the implementation of First Nations-related requirements in the National Heritage Trust program and Strong Culture Healthy Country project including engagement, co-design activities, and adherence to Indigenous Cultural Intellectural Property clauses
  • Assist in developing, implementing, reporting and evaluating effectiveness of projects to ensure shared outcomes for Aboriginal communities and land managers while meeting NHT-funded and other relevant requirements
  • Effective communication with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Project management skills in multistakeholder and time-and-budget constrained environments.

About You:

To be successful you’ll ideally have:

  • Proven ability to manage multistakeholder projects on time and within budget. 
  • A proven ability to work with, engage and learn from First Nations people.  
  • Strong communication skills, working in a complex multistakeholder environments with internal and external customers
  • Proven ability to develop relationships with Aboriginal people and groups, engage with landholders, contractors and researchers.
  • Ability to follow internal policies and procedure, ideally with contract management experience including the ability to develop, manage and close contracts with sub-contractors and landholders.  Understanding and ability to meet procurement, contracting and reporting requirements in relation to these. Ability to also manage contracts and outcomes in line with the Work Order to meet external customer needs. 
  • Be process driven and able to gain understanding using various systems quickly.
  • Be a team player including the ability to support a small team internally to deliver outcomes involving many external stakeholders

 Essential requirements 

  • Proven experience in community engagement and collaboration with First Nations people and organisations
  • Cultural competency training or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of agricultural, environmental, natural resource management, biosecurity and emergency management issues
  • Ability and willingness to undertake a police check and medical clearance
  • Current NSW Driver Licence and the ability and willingness to travel
